A Few Words About Us

Huntsville, Family, and great country food

FarmHouse Café was a concept created by my wife and my mother-in-law.  My wife’s family has been in the restaurant business there entire lives and started in Huntsville with the Café Texan.  From there they went on to open a Mexican restaurant named Casa Tomas and had several over the years, beginning in 1977 till 2003 here in Huntsville.  That is where I was lucky enough to meet my wife while working a summer job there while attending Sam Houston State University. I fell in love with her and eventually fell in love with the restaurant business as well.  When we sold Casa Tomas, my wife and I had been running the Huntsville location since 1993 and we were not exactly sure what we would do.  With the help of Ed Sandhop, Gibbs Brothers and great creative ideas from Ginny Renfro and my wife Karen, we came up with the concept of FarmHouse Café. We wanted down-home southern cooking, known as comfort food.  We wanted a nice, but casual “hole in the wall” place that served quality down home cooking with great atmosphere and service.

We employ many students from Sam Houston State and are glad to be Bearkat Alum. From my father-in-law, my wife and myself along with our three kids, we are all proud to be called Bearkats.

Our philosophy is to take care of the customer like you were invited to someone’s house for lunch or dinner. We want you to look forward to coming to the Farmhouse Café. We make every effort to ensure that you enjoy everything that you order, from the broccoli cornbread and rolls and the blue plate special of the day, to the daily made homemade pies and cakes to top off your experience. And don’t forget the sweet tea!!!
